A Touching Eulogy - But Should It Support Legalized Killing?

This is a very heart-felt read, no question. Whether it should be used as a motivation for legalized assisted suicide or euthanasia is quite another.
Tony Nicklinson: my dad, my hero
On 25 June 2005, Tony Nicklinson entered his own personal purgatory, hovering between life and death. He suffered a brain-stem stroke so devastating that it resulted in locked-in syndrome, a condition often described as "the closest thing to being buried alive". Tony's fully conscious and razor-sharp mind was locked into a broken body, his lifeless limbs and paralysed vocal cords unresponsive to the brain signals commanding them to move. By his own admission, he died that day, despite his beating heart, and it was not until the 22 August 2012 that his body finally caught up. more

UK Pro-Death Poster Family Ready To Go - Again

The pro-deathers are incredibly persistent – never forget that. Poor Tony Nicklinson is hardly cold in his grave and already his lawyers and family are looking for the next poster child for their nihilistic cause. Never forget – the prodeathers never, ever, ever give up.
Tony Nicklinson's family back call to carry on legal fight with new claimantLawyers acting for Tony Nicklinson, the man with locked-in syndrome who died after losing a legal bid to end his life, claim that unaired legal arguments in his unsuccessful battle can be revived should another claimant come forward seeking to pursue his case. Such a move would mean that volumes of evidence collected by Nicklinson's legal team, addressing key issues in the right-to-die debate that were not heard during his case, could still end up being presented in the supreme court. more

UK: Good Commentary On The Death Of Tony Nicklinson

Here’s a good piece commenting on the recent death of Tony Nicklinson in the UK.
The ban on euthanasia is to protect us from ourselves
The widow of Tony Nicklinson says that the campaign for “a doctor’s right to end a life without fear of prosecution will continue” following the death of her husband who lost his court case in which he claimed the right to die. In the event Mr Nicklinson died from the complications of pneumonia after he had has refused food and fluids for several days.
The debate about euthanasia is being obscured by the use of pernicious euphemisms. Let’s come clean and speak plainly. “The doctor’s right to end a life” means the doctor has the right to kill someone. Whichever way you look at this, it means a licence to murder. Those who campaign for euthanasia want a change in the law so that this sort of killing – for that’s what it is – should no longer be against the law. This has far-reaching consequences, for it means that, in some cases, murder will no longer be murder. more

In January, the 58-year-old asked the High Court to declare that any doctor who killed him with his consent would not be charged with murder. Last week, the court rejected his request, a decision that Nicklinson said had left him "devastated and heartbroken." more

UK Counter To Killing A Disabled Man

Here’s a counter to Tony Nicklinson, who is asking that his wife kill him seeing that he can’t do it himself (see post below).

A leading anti-euthanasia group has said that a disabled man's efforts to legalise  euthanasia undermines everyone's security.
