UK Hospitals: Killing, Not Caring

This is what the culture of death brings – loved ones keeping a patient alive – in a hospital – after the hospital decided to kill the patient by hydration. Horrific - and true.
A pathway to euthanasia? Family revive father doctors ruled wasn't worth saving
The family of a 48-year-old man have told how they rescued him from dying on the controversial Liverpool Care Pathway by reviving him with drops of water.
Andy Flanagan’s family were told that he was severely brain damaged, had organ failure and was close to death after a cardiac arrest.
They gathered at his bedside to say their goodbyes after the hospital withdrew fluids and said it was going to let him ‘slip away’. more

More On Pro-Death Brit Film Director

Here’s more on Michael Winner, a prominent Brit film director who’s come out favoring legalized assisted sucide – for himself and for others to emulate. Sad.
Dignitas can help me die, says Michael Winner after doctors told him he has 18 months to live
Michael Winner has revealed he may choose to take his own life at the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland.
The film director and restaurant critic, 76, said he has researched services at the assisted-dying institution.

Brits Continue To Got To Swiss Death Clinic To Die

The Brits keep going to Swiss death clinic Dignitas to kill themselves. Here’s the latest on the trend.
Trickle of British suicide cases to Dignitas continues as Swiss vote for status quo
Switzerland’s parliament voted against a bid to toughen controls on assisted suicide last week, rejecting concerns about foreigners travelling to the country to die.
Members of the lower house of parliament voted against changing the code, arguing self-regulation by right-to-die organizations such as Exit and Dignitas worked and the liberal rules protected individual freedoms.
The vote in parliament mirrors a referendum in Zurich last year when voters rejected overwhelmingly proposed bans on assisted suicide and ‘suicide tourism’. more

Tragedy Used For Pro-Death Media Spin

Here’s another report from the UK in the pro-death tank. These are tragic stories to be sure, but not only for the reasons in the story. The real tragedy is that people see ending their lives as the only alternative to living with debilitating and terminal illness.
'His last wish was to die at home': Fury of mother who watched her husband die months after their daughter's suicide
Landscape gardener Patrick Norfolk had one last wish as the debilitating physical condition that had plagued him for years entered its final, terrible stages. He wanted to die in his garden among the flowers and plants he  had tended for decades, surrounded by his family.
Patrick, 65, had been left a shell of his former independent, physically active self by motor neurone disease – an incurable illness that wreaks havoc on the nervous system and causes muscles to waste away.
Overwhelmed by the disease’s relentless onslaught, Patrick did indeed try to take his own life at his home. But the attempt was unsuccessful and – unable to seek help from his wife Anne or anyone else because of Britain’s laws on assisted suicide – he took the agonising decision to end his life at the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland. more

UK: Lib Dems Consider Party Line On Assisted Suicide & Euthanasia

Those UK pols just can’t seem to leave the assisted suicide and euthanasia stuff alone. However, it’s nice to see that not all agree.
Lib Dem conference affirms support for assisted suicideDelegates at the Liberal Democrat’s annual conference have passed a motion in support of assisted suicide and euthanasia. But one cancer specialist, who is also a Lib Dem councillor, told delegates that her patients are desperate to live, not die. Dr Wendy Taylor said that neither she nor her colleagues want to be involved with helping patients end their lives. more

UK Pols Take Sides On Assisted Suicide

Here’s more on the recent UK poll that found politicians generally don’t back changing the UK’s laws on assisted suicide.
Emotive debate over legally-assisted suicide splits county MPs
MPs across Gloucestershire are split over whether or not to legalise assisted suicide. According to a new poll, the majority of Parliamentarians are against making assisted dying legal with more than seven out of 10 refusing to back calls for such legislation.
The poll of 150 MPs from all parties also found just 29 per cent backed moves to change the law. Martin Horwood, MP for Cheltenham (LD), said he was "strongly in favour" of legally assisted suicide, but stressed the need for "strong safeguards". He said: "I am sensitive to the views of constituents on the ethics of this issue, but my position is strongly influenced by my father's experience when he was terminally ill. more
