Well, looks like Quebec is pushing euthanasia pretty hard. As usual, the opposition is playing catch-up.

Activists are pushing back against Parti Quebecois plans to allow what they say will be euthanasia in Quebec under the guise of "medical aid in dying."
The head of the Catholic Organization for Life and Family said plans to introduce legislation are not a surprise because they were part of the Parti Quebecois' platform. more

Quebec’s newly elected government announced that it plans to table legislation legalizing euthanasia and assisted suicide as early as next spring, even though Canadian federal law prohibits the practice.
A spokeswoman for the minority Parti Quebecois government of Premier Pauline Marois said the proposed legislation was part of the party’s election platform and was based on recommendations from the report of the province’s Special Commission on Dying with Dignity. more

Medically assisted-suicide has fueled ethical, legal and even religious and moral debates. The contention surrounding medically assisted suicide and the issue of consent has arisen continually. Quebec seniors bear brunt of home-care cuts
In 2003, the Quebec government instituted a policy favouring home care for the elderly and disabled over long-term care institutions, but complaints are growing that the government is not delivering on its commitment.
Provincial ombudsman Raymonde Saint-Germain has found that while Quebec’s home-care policy does not allow the government to deprive anyone of home-care services, some people needing help to remain in their homes are excluded, others have their service reduced, waiting lists are getting longer and caregiver burnout is growing among family members.
“There are not enough resources,” Saint-Germain told The Gazette in a telephone interview explaining the conclusions of her March 30 report, Is home support always the best option? more
