Doing Away With Down Syndrome - Maybe

Well yes, the murder of children with Down Syndrome is well under way and has been for years. While figures vary slightly, about 9 out of 10 babies with DS are aborted. This piece explains why this might not actually end DS in the workld.
A World Without People With Down Syndrome? At What Price?
One of the great philosophical divisions of our time is between those who believe progress is steadily making mankind happier, healthier, and all-around better; and those who believe human nature is basically constant, with new developments just as capable of yielding evil as they are good. Both worldviews collide in a recent New York Post story on a new method of testing for Down Syndrome: more

Study Refutes "Wisdom" That Down Syndrome Means An Unhappy Life

We need a lot more research like this, because the overwhelming pressure to destroy those with Down Syndrome is based on the "fact" that they will have lesser lives. This study refutes that quite forcefully.
Life with Down syndrome overwhelmingly happy, says US study
The latest research on life with Down syndrome paints a very positive picture. In a major feature in the American Journal of Medical Genetics, Dr Brian Skotko, of  Children’s Hospital Boston, and colleagues report that “The overwhelming majority of parents surveyed report that they are happy with their decision to have their child with DS and indicate that their sons and daughters are great sources of love and pride”. more

The War On Down Syndrome Gets More Pointed

I'm shocked, I tell you . . . More effective ways to eugenically kill those who are different? Who would have thought . . . ? (Forgive the sarcasm, too tempting).
Study proves accuracy of new Down syndrome test, increases fears of ‘weeding out’ Down’s children
A recent study published in the journal Nature Medicine and authored by researchers in Cyprus, shows the success of a new prenatal blood test that could potentially replace current invasive procedures used to test for Down syndrome. more

Some Sanity In The Aussie Fascination With Euthanasia

Given the Aussie flirtation with assisted suicide and euthanasia, here’s a refreshing and utterly rational defense of people with disabilities as valuable, something that the pro-deathers routinely deny.
DISABILITY AND EUTHANASIA – A PERSONAL REFLECTION
It’s probably quite difficult to understand the viewpoint of a person living with a disability.  I once thought it almost impossible. But that all changed when I met my wife-to-be. Anne’s older brother lived all his life with a significant intellectual disability.
My introduction to my future brother-in-law was handled extremely gently. I guess having grown up with Mark, Anne understood that people were often visibly uncomfortable in his presence and expected me to be no different. She was right. more

Excellent UK Piece Linking Pro-Deather Ideas To Abuse Of People With Disabilities

An excellent piece out of the UK connecting the abuse of people with disabilities to the assisted suicide/euthanasia debate. I’ll post a link to Rosa Monckton’s movie as soon as I find it.
A terrible truth: it's natural to pick on the weak
Some time in the last 50 years, a collective decision was made to try to behave better towards the disabled and the mentally handicapped. Why was such a decision considered necessary? Rosa Monckton's powerful television programme helped give the answer.
Rosa, who herself has a 15‐year-old with Down's syndrome, filmed the lives of three families, and of one man living alone, who are persecuted because of their disability. Their suffering is caused not by the public authorities – though Rosa is critical of failures by those authorities to respond – but by neighbours. more

Mothers Refusing To Bow To Genetic Discrimination - Good!

On the surface refusing pre-natal testing seems a little off – unless you know that because of this testing, there is now widespread genetic discrimination against those with genetic anomalies, most often those diagnosed in-utero with Down Syndrome, 90% of which become terminated pregnancies.
WHY PRENATAL TESTING HARMS AS MUCH AS IT HELPS
My pregnancy has been an easy one. No morningsickness, more than ample weight gain, minimal aches and pains and good rest. Yet as my husband, Peter, and I walked into the doctor’s office for our first prenatal appointment, I said, “I am dreading this visit.”
Our daughter, who is now 4½, has Down syndrome. She was born when I was 28. Although there is no known cause for Down syndrome (the presence of an extra 21st chromosome), as soon as I conceived Penny, my chances of having another baby with Down syndrome increased significantly, from 1 in 1,000 to 1 in 100. Those chances only increase further as I age. more
